Sylvia earned her Master’s in Global History in 2023 from Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt Universität Berlin. Her MA thesis, Seen Not Heard: African Students in East German Newspapers, 1960-1980, detailed the juxtaposition between official GDR rhetoric regarding students from the Global students with their experiences. In 2018, she graduated with Highest Distinction from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Contemporary European Studies. Her primary research interest is Blackness in Central Europe, but she is also interested in migration, historical revisionism, and political memory. Professionally, she has worked in academic administration, education, and client services. As a dual citizen of the United States and Hungary, her transatlantic upbringing greatly influenced her passion for intellectual exploration. She speaks English, German, and Hungarian at an advanced level. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, swimming, hiking, reading interesting books at cafes, and listening to podcasts.
